Houston is the most populous city in Texas and the fourth-most populous city in the United States, located in Southeast Texas near the Gulf of Mexico.

Houston is multicultural, in part because of its many academic institutions and strong industries, as well as being a major port city. Over 90 languages are spoken in the city. It has among the youngest populations in the nation, partly due to an influx of immigrants into Texas. An estimated 400,000 illegal aliens reside in the Houston area.

According to a 2009 Census, the percentage of foreign-born persons in Arlington, Virginia was 28.5%, ranking it 16th in the United States for foreign-born populations, and in addition, Hispanics made up 37.4% of Houston’s population (2000 Census).
