Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters (CCHI) Presents Free CE Webinar for Interpreters on December, 7th, 2016.
There’s no doubt that language interpreters play a key role in our society, helping to provide understanding and effective communication in numerous industries, such as Healthcare and Medical, 9-1-1 Emergency, Legal and Business. With the ever changing landscape of the language industry and the rising need for language access programs, it is more important than ever than interpreters stay at the top of their game! This means that in addition to rigorous testing and training for interpreter certification programs, interpreters must also constantly be training and participating in continuing education for interpreters to be able to provide the highest level of language services.
To help certified interpreters in their continuing education, we would like to recommend this free CE webinar for interpreters, Interpreting the Psychiatric Interview: How Language Affects the Mental Status Exam, presented by Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters (CCHI), and will be for interpreters of ALL languages.
This webinar is accredited by CEAP/CCHI for 1.5 CE hours and will be the last CE course of this year (2016).
Founded in 2009, CCHI is a 501(c)(6) organization, and was the first organization certifying healthcare interpreters to receive NCCA accreditation. CCHI’s mission is “to develop and direct a comprehensive credentialing program for healthcare interpreters, bring together representatives from national and regional non-profit interpreting associations, language companies, community-based organizations, educational institutions, healthcare providers, and advocates for LEP individuals.”

Interpreting a psychiatric interview poses unique challenges. The entire interview serves as a mental status exam and providers have specific reasons to ask questions in a certain way. An interpreter who is ill-equipped to deal with these challenges can unknowingly cloud the provider’s ability to assess the patient correctly.
CCHI has invited Maria Carla Faccini, CHI™-Spanish, and Dr. Adrienne D. Mishkin to present this free, language-neutral, Continuing Education webinar “Interpreting the Psychiatric Interview: How Language Affects the Mental Status Exam” so that attendees can learn about the provider’s thought process and some of the techniques they use to interview patients. The speakers will also discuss examples that show how a skilled interpreter can improve the quality of the interview. Strategies that the interpreter can use to overcome challenges typical for this appointment type will also be discussed.
This webinar is accredited by CEAP/CCHI for 1.5 CE hours and is intended for intermediate-level interpreters.
